Tutelo Park Ethnobotanic Walk – September 13th

September 5, 2025

The Town of Ithaca Conservation Board invites the public to join them on Saturday, September 13th anytime between 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Town’s Tutelo Park (151 Bostwick Road) to explore the new ethnobotanic trail.  Look for them near the park pavilion at the new kiosk.  Conservation Board members and others involved in the project will be available to answer questions and provide guided walks of the new trail.

The new plant walk at Tutelo Park features biocultural information for each plant included in the walk. The plant walk focuses on the significance, uses, and language of the regional Indigenous people, the Gayogohó:nǫˀ, commonly known as the Cayuga.  Each plant label contains the Gayogohó:nǫˀ name, the common name, and scientific name, a brief description, and a QR code to take visitors to a webpage with audio recordings and additional details. For more information on the plant walk and the eleven plants included, please see the Town website at: https://townithacany.gov/tutelo-park-plant-walk/

Funding for the ethnobotanic trail was provided by the Tompkins County Municipal Parks and Trails Grant Program.
