Community Choice Aggregation (CCA)
Introducing Ithaca’s New CCA Program
The Town of Ithaca is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of its new Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) Program, which is being operated as the electricity and gas supply component of a new and ambitious climate and equity program that is being spearheaded by the Town with the City of Ithaca, called the Tompkins Green Energy Network or T-GEN.
What is CCA?
Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) is a program that empowers municipalities to bulk-purchase electricity and natural gas on behalf of local customers with the goal of achieving lower costs, greater price stability, and/or higher amounts of renewable energy.
Why would I join?
The goal of the program is to achieve competitive pricing for energy. You’ll likely hear us say that we hope to “meet or beat” NYSEG’s default supply rate and meet or beat the state’s renewable energy requirements.
How can I join the Town’s CCA?
CCA programs use an “opt-out” enrollment mechanism, meaning, for most users, you don’t have to take any special action to join. However, if you don’t wish to participate in the program, you will be given an opportunity to disenroll. Enrollment won’t begin until Fall 2026. You will have many opportunities to engage with and learn about the program before it launches. See below for our outreach schedule where you can learn more.
How can I learn more and participate?
The process for launching the program is under state regulation that requires robust public education and outreach, which residents can expect to begin in February 2026. Prior to selecting energy supplier(s), the Town will host four information sessions: two in-person meetings with online participation (hybrid), and two online-only virtual meetings. All meetings will have Question & Answer periods.
